How to overcome stress: 15 simple habits to follow

Stress is a state of mind, which occurs when the outcome of our or someone else's action is not coming, what and how we have imagined. Stress is caused by the gap between our expectations and reality.

Stress can be a situational thing which occurs when we are in a high pressure or tension situation. For example, during exams or in a game.

But, stress also can be a long term phenomena, if we fail to recognize and manage it properly. Because continuous stress often transforms into depression and mental illness. This occurs when we are having stress over something on a regular basis.

In today's world…stress has become a common phenomena. Where each other person is affected by it.

Some of the main causes of stress in the middle income and high income countries are: stress of studies, career, relationship and social pressure to get success ASAP.

Now, see what we can do on a daily basis to avoid stress in our life. So, we can live a peaceful, stable and joyous life.

1.Recognize the reason of stress

The first and foremost task is that…you have to recognize that you are stressed. Yes! It is an important thing to do.

Why are you stressed?
What has been changed that causes stress?

Reasons are important to find out to cure the problem from its roots. Whether stress is due to lifestyle changes or due to psychological changes.
Stress management is the basis of it.
That's why it will be difficult to eliminate stress without knowing its roots.

 2.Accept the life's unfortunate events

Sometimes stress is caused by unfortunate events that occur in our life. Like losing our near or dear ones, crushing our dreams, or getting into debt etc.

In these kinds of situations we can't do much to control the outcome. But, we have to stay strong and move forward in life.
Life is much more than sitting in one place and crying behind.

For that we have to accept the situation. Heal ourselves and get back to our work/ business.
Starting again and moving forward is the best remedy to control stress.

3.Work hard and surrender the rest

Nowadays, career seems to be a hot recipe for stress. On one hand people work hard to make their dreams come true,
while on the other hand they also worry too much about it.

Whether they are going right or not?
What if they fail?

This is called overthinking. Which brings self doubt and causes unnecessary stress .
That's why… . Do your best and surrender the rest. By surrendering we become mentally free from the pressure that was causing stress.

4.Maintain a gratitude journal

Human minds have a tendency to attract more towards negative thought or towards negativity, than positive thought. This also causes stress, as it gives justification to our thoughts on “lack of something in our lives.”

That's why we have to force our mind towards the things “we have” or towards abundance in our life. For that we have to maintain a gratitude journal.
Where we have to reassure our mind, that there are good things in our life also, for that we are grateful or thankful. This also lowers the stress significantly over time.

5.Practice Mindfulness on daily basis

One of the key causes of stress is that we live more in our head than in real life. We constantly think about our past regrets and about future uncertainties. And because of that stress comes into our picture.

To avoid living in the head we have to practice mindfulness or try to live in the present moment. For that we have to do some kind of mental exercises like breathing, meditation and inner engineering etc.
Breathing is considered to be most effective as an instant stress buster.

6.Take up any physical activity

It could be running, gymming or a half an hour walk in a garden. It provides an adrenaline rush to our body, which releases happy hormones.

Which proves to be quite effective in stress management or calming your mind. Follow this for a week and you yourselves will witness the results.

7.Engage in some kind of productive task

We are more stressed when we are free, as we keep thinking about the same event over and over again, which causes immense stress in our mind.
To avoid this it is better to do something. It could be related to personal growth like improving communication skills and learning new skills, or it could be related to professional work.

Just don't sit ideal… . . Being free serves as the perfect ground for stress.

8. Control your mind

Control your mind here, I mean don't just get carried away by your thoughts. Or in other words don't follow your thoughts, sometimes our mind wanders here and there without any direction. Which often becomes the reason for our stress.

So, there is a need to check on our thoughts on a regular basis. We have to put a full stop on our minds wondering. This could be done by delaying thoughts or by shifting our focus towards polar opposite things. This could instantly calm our mind.

9.Spend time with yourself

When we spend time with ourselves, we get clarity in our life or about our life. We get to know more about ourselves, such as what our strengths and weaknesses are, why we are stressed?
And once we know ourselves very well it becomes a cakewalk for us to tackle stress. Because then we know where to work? and how to work?

10.Walk into the nature🌿

Nature heals everything. We are aware of this. It also works for stress. Since ages nature acts as a perfect remedy for human problems, and stress is one of them.
By simply taking a walk into a forest area you will experience something different. And this difference is something that is going to cure your stress.

11.Start saying “No”

Our yesmanship also brings unnecessary burden and stress in our life. We are reluctantly involved in the business of other people. Where we have to perform duties for others or more likely to live a life that others decided for us. This often becomes a cause of concern or stress for us.
Here, we can't do anything of our choice or we have to live for others
Thus, take charge of your life and start saying no.

12.Take short break from monotonous life

Sometimes routine life also becomes a headache for us. Modern day lifestyle is such that a man becomes sandwiched between house and work. Overburden of work and household responsibilities often comes into conflict with each other. This has become the key reason for stress in urban areas and in the corporate sector.
To address this, frequent short breaks are non- negotiable to recharge or to cater our stress.

13. Regular break from screen

Constant looking at the screen is now becoming necessary to survive in the digital world.
Some people completely depend on the screen for their work, while others use the screen as a pass time activity. This unknowingly causes stress, by overflooding of information and by tiring our body and mind.
Thus, take regular breaks from the screen and save yourself from stress.

14.Have a small network of friends and family

Having a network helps us to navigate through tough times. Having a strong backing helps to take risks in our life. And risk helps in our growth, when our risk turns into tragedy then we have a support system.
With our support system we can share our problems and also get some advice. Sharing problems acts like a stress buster.

15.Be happy

Happiness is a state of mind and comes from within. We often make our happiness dependent on our success and achievements.

We often forget that happiness brings us success. Not success that brings happiness.
Because life is a journey where we have to conquer so many mountains. If we wait for the right moment to be happy, it will never come.

Thus, be happy in the moment and say goodbye to stress.

Takeaways

Stress is a byproduct of our unnecessary overthinking, overanalyzing and worrying about the situation or events.. It traced its origin from our mind. It works like….if we assume there is stress then there is, unless there is no stress.

By following above mentioned habits or practices we can easily tackle stress and overcome it.

For that we have to focus on ourselves, we have to monitor our situation on a regular basis.

But, if we can't tackle our stress then don't be afraid to take professional help. There is a solution to every problem, we just need to take a step.
