“ Personal growth begins the moment you choose progress over comfort.”
We often track our academic progress and achievement. We make clear and detailed goals. Work hard, take help and be ready to make countless sacrifices.
What about personal growth?
Though, intellectual development is also some kind of a personal growth. As it makes us more knowledgeable and broadens our horizons.
But, self growth is much deeper and reflective.
Self growth is a continuous journey of making ourselves better by adopting a growth mindset, positive attitude, building upon new skills and adopting productive habits. It is a pathway to mental peace and clarity. It is more about our behavior with ourselves. It transforms the person into a more empathetic, compassionate human being.
On the journey of self growth, there are certain steps we have to take Or I must say some practices we have to immediately pursue for personal growth.
These are…
1.Cut off Negative People
There are some people in our lives, who never think and speak well about anything. They always remain in “lacking mode” rather than abundance.
These people attract negative energy and also affect us from their negativity. They make us doubt ourselves. So, cut off from these kinds of people… if you can't, then maintain distance as much as possible. These people often became roadblocks to our journey of personal growth.
2.Quit Social Media
It might sound extreme in the era of the digital world. Where, Our existence is more defined by virtual existence rather than physical existence.
But, what social media brings us is really questionable?
Though social media acts as a channel to connect us to the world, there are also increasing stances of loneliness, depression and mental issues. It provides us information and enhances our awareness, but also causes info overloading.
This is also enhancing the feeling of low self-esteem. It sows the seeds of envy, jealousy and comparison.
This is disrupting our mental peace… which is one of the key steps to venture into personal growth.
3.Stop Comparing yourself with Others
Everyone has their own journey of progress and success. Some people get success easily while others struggle a lot. Some people are born with silver spoons but others struggle to fill their stomachs.
Thus, comparison is only going to make our life worse. Because, there are always going to be people in our life who are more successful, wealthy and influential than us.
So… . Stop comparing, it will drain your energy and peace. It is better to focus on becoming the best version of yourselves by pursuing personal growth. And the best way is to work upon yourself.
4.Stop Dwelling into Past Failures
Let me tell you… . That each one of us has some kind of unfinished chapter or failures in our lives. Where things do not turn out as we imagined. This hurts a lot.
We have nothing but to close these chapters permanently.
Because, if we stay there…we are going to keep ourselves wounded. There is always a better destination that is waiting for you.
Thus, heal yourself and move out from the past as soon as possible. Remaining there is not going to make any progress, rather it stagnates our growth.
So start again and start fresh.
5. Start Saying No
Sometimes, saying no to people and situations is far more satisfying than saying yes. As it saves us from unnecessary drama and exhaustion.
It may be painful in the short term, but in the long run it is going to make you straight forward and resilient.
One thing we need to understand is that we have only one life, so live it for yourself. Focus on doing things that contribute to your personal growth and development.
6. Stop Paying Attention to the Stones that are Thrown at you
One of the key disease all we are having is,
What will people say?
We often forget that, irrespective of what we are doing, they are anyway going to make comments. It is their business to put their nose in others matters. They are here to throw stones at us. Because they want to pull us down.
But, remember all you are doing is for yourself, people will talk until they get the new topic to explore.
So, ignore them and move forward… because only you are responsible for your life, your dreams and for your personal growth.
7.Stop being Afraid of Loneliness
We are often afraid of being alone. We prefer to have a bunch of people around us. We need people to talk, walk and to pursue our goals. We are so afraid of being alone… that we find it extremely difficult to walk alone so we follow the herd.
Here, we need to transform our loneliness into solitude. Solitude means enjoying your own company. Once we are used to it, we no longer need people.
Solitude is the pathway to self growth and personal development. Solitude taught us to look into our inner self, listen to our voice. We understand ourselves better by knowing our weakness and strength.
And when you know where to work, your task becomes simple to execute.
8.Stop Going to the Exhaustive Social Gathering
Sometimes just being there drains us. It consumes our energy and peace in just a couple of hours.
It is not that we are tired of going there, It happens because the energy of those places and people won't be able to align with your energy. Rather than charging, it exhausts us.
By simply avoiding these functions we save our energy that could be used for personal growth by exploring our inner self more deeply.
9.Stop Being Hard on Yourself
We often blame ourselves for setbacks in our life. We make ourselves responsible for every failure and loss that occurs to us.
This happens because we are “easy targets for ourselves”. Anyway we have to blame someone.. So we blame ourselves. We become rude to ourselves, talk negatively, and blame destiny for our hardships.
But, this will make things worse.
Instead of being hard on ourselves, we should practice self compassion, as it is the way to our personal growth. Self compassion makes us behave well with ourselves. It paved the way for our positive mindset.
10.Stop wasting time in Non-productive Activities
We are so pro in wasting our time here and there…that our hours pass in minutes. The funny part is that we don't even realize.
This happens with each of us.
Because, sometimes we get busy with unnecessary activities. Which are not truly worthy of our time. We spend time as freebies.
Here, we don't realize the importance of productive activities like improving communication skills, learning new skills. We often neglect our personal growth and development, and the excuse is lack of time.
These are some of the important practices that one should follow for their personal growth.
These steps are like setting boundaries for ourselves. By setting boundaries we are not limiting ourselves, rather we clear the path for our growth.
When we have time, energy and peace, we start to look into our inner self. We started to know ourselves better. Once you focus towards yourself… then there is no going back. Personal growth is a continuous journey of making ourselves better and conscious.
These are some of the rituals we can further adopt for our personal growth.
Start reading:
As it is the best way to move forward in your career smoothly and faster. Reading brings you back to the present moment. Also reading provides important takeaways for our journey of personal growth.
Yoga and Meditation
I know everyone recommends this, but this actually works. Yoga for physical fitness and meditation for mental fitness.
Start journaling:
It will organize your thoughts, clear mental blockades. It acts like a mental mirror. It shows us the true inner picture of ourselves. And this acts as a pathway to our personal growth.
Gardening:
One of the best ways to reorient yourself towards living into the present moment. It makes us spend time with ourselves.
Upgrade yourself:

Set goals and work hard.
Now it is your turn to focus on personal growth and come out of your head and start living life.
Remember in life we have to be sure about the things we are not going to do, then things we have to do.
